Hey, I’m Steve. I’m a freelance WordPress developer and designer with over a decade of experience developing tailored WordPress solutions for a diverse range of clients. I bring a deep understanding of WordPress that translates to providing you with an exceptional website that performs beyond all expectations.
Based in Ashford, Kent in the UK, I’ve been a professional web developer and designer for 18+ years, working with some of the most notorious web agencies and in-house digital teams in London and Kent.
Over the years as a freelance WordPress developer, I’ve worked closely with companies of all sizes from small startups to global well-known household brands and everything in-between, providing bespoke web solutions that produce quality, measurable results.
Although I specialise as a freelance WordPress developer, I’m also well-versed in a number of other popular web based frameworks such as React and Laravel, so no web project is too big or small.
Value for money and transparency are at the core of my ethos. As a freelance WordPress web developer and web designer, I work at £55 per hour (£440 per day).
As a guide, a brochure website design and build comes at around £5000-£8000 and typically includes project planning, bespoke web design, bespoke web development, website performance optimisation, technical SEO and quality assurance.
A 12-month warranty is also included on all web development work for complete peace of mind.
If you’re looking for a freelance WordPress developer based in the UK to help assist in building websites on a white-label basis, most of the work I do is with agencies, and having worked in agencies most of my working life, I’m no stranger to the many tools and systems you may already have in place.
I seamlessly integrate into your existing processes, becoming an extension of your team. This means that you can consider me not just as an external resource, but as a valuable member of your in-house team.
I can help elevate your website agency’s offering, help with overflow when you’re at capacity or be your WordPress consultant when you feel you may need it.
My name is Steve, not Jack. You won’t find all the trades here. Only those I’m truly skilled in to guarantee you only the best results for your bespoke website project.
WordPress is a free and open-source content management system, that allows you to add and edit the content (text and images) on your website for maximum control. It’s one of the most widely used content systems on the internet, powering 60% of websites due to its flexibility and ease of use.
I’ve been using WordPress for over 12 years, utilising the best parts of this software to bring a wholly tailored website solutions to fit you and your business goals. This results in blazing-fast performance, a bespoke website that looks great and most importantly, communicates your brand and product offering effectively to your website visitors.
I specialise in bespoke, self-hosted WordPress web design and development including WordPress themes, Gutenberg blocks, WordPress plugins and 3rd party API integrations.
A few of the most frequently asked questions I receive regarding my freelance WordPress services.
The short answer is no. The longer answer is that these drag and drop editors store layouts in the database. Something which a database is not meant to be doing. Couple this with the thousands of options, of which you’ll likely only need a handful and that’s a lot of bloat you end up running with, affecting your website performance.
As one of my core focuses, performance and stability remains important to search engines and above everything, your users. For these reasons and plenty more (feel free to ask), I do not use website builders. I won’t even take on existing sites that utilise these systems.
I absolutely can do if your preference is to use that. The only reason I’m not currently utilising it exclusively is because I still feel it needs work in order to provide the options I like to provide my clients. I feel the solution I currently provide has enough flexibility to be creative but with enough restrictions that you don’t need to fear breaking your website when editing it. That said, if you choose to use Gutenberg for your WordPress site, I have had plenty of exposure to Gutenberg and the full-site editing WordPress provides to be able to fulfil that request.
WordPress as a platform is open-source and free. I don’t charge monthly fees. You only pay for the development time. I charge £55 per hour and can generally complete a standard brochure website (a site with a few basic requirements such as a home page, some internal pages, contact page and a blog where a design is readily available in around 2 weeks.
Pricing is based on time estimates which can vary depending on complexity of the design and functionality. The quotes I produce are usually flat rates for the majority of sites but may also come with a minimum and maximum cost if the complexity of your project is high as estimations of time become difficult.
Absolutely not. Your WordPress website will be 100% bespoke in order to be performant from the beginning. It’s not developed completely from the ground up however. I have a custom starter WordPress theme I use for every project that contains some entry level content blocks and functions that speed up development and enhance performance and security of your WordPress website from the start. You’re welcome to check what that WordPress theme contains on my Github repository here: https://github.com/tex0gen/bootstrap5-wordpress-theme.
Yes. My process around designing a WordPress website is a little different to most other WordPress designers and we will discuss that in your initial call if you’d like me to do your website design.
I can cover the world! I work from home primarily but I am set up to work from wherever as I code on a high-end Macbook Pro for mobility. If you’d like face-to-face meetings, I am based in Ashford in Kent so I’m quite central to the county of Kent and I drive. I can travel as far as Ashford, Medway (Maidstone, Chatham, Rochester, etc), Canterbury, Folkestone, Dover and London. If you’d like to meet me further afield than these places, please let me know.
I work with WordPress agencies and businesses around the UK to produce great results with websites that resonate with their customers.
I contacted Steve to help me create a website that I would not only love to bits but be functional, and quick and help me be seen by more customers through organic searches.
Having worked with other web developers and designers in the past I can’t even begin to explain how much better my whole experience working with Steve has been. After a few calls to pin down a bit of a road map, he helped create the most amazing website for me. As far as design ideas and options for the website’s functionality anything was possible! Working with him to fine-tune the site was seamless, he just understood the brief and nailed it every time we made an adjustment.
Don’t waste your time looking around at all the options and doing the comparisons, get it right the first time. This is your guy!
Steve has been an absolute star on our WordPress site – making it easier to edit, faster, and more secure.
Steve is a dream to work with – I give him a brief, and he challenges me on ideas that aren’t so good and suggests alternatives. He then just gets on with it, quickly and to a good standard.
I’m almost hesitant to write this in case you snap up Steve’s time and we can no longer use him!
Great service and execution from Steve, start to finish on our wordpress website development. Very easy to communicate with, which resulted in an excellent end product that we couldn’t be happier with.
He really went the extra mile to ensure we were happy with our new website.
I would recommend Steve as a freelance WordPress developer to anyone, without fail!
Sometimes, you get to work with awesome people and Steve is one of those.
Not only is he an excellent developer but he’s also a really good bloke.
Steve helps us at Riweb when we get to capacity or one of our devs could do with some guidance.
If you ever need a freelance web developer then look no further. He’s a joy to work with.
Steve was a consummate professional! For our project, we needed a freelance WordPress developer who could pick up the ball and run with little supervision. With his excellent technical knowledge and communication skills this is exactly what he did, delivering on time and to budget.
